Taking positive steps

These are just suggestions; please let COAP know is you have any other suggestions on how to take positive steps to making things better in your life.
Sometimes it can be really helpful, when things are getting on top of you and life is really getting you down, to have in your mind positive things that you know you can do that will make you happier.
Some of you with parents/carers/guardian's who are addicted to drugs and alcohol may not have had the chance to learn how to deal with difficult situations in a healthy, positive way. Although you may be dealing with your parent’s addiction the best you know how, your approach to your parent’s addiction may not be helping you.
You can look at the following lists and create one yourself when you are feeling down, alone, isolated, hurt, angry, disappointed, rejected and in need of some time out.
Lists can be quite useful, and if you copy them down and keep them in your pocket, when you get really stressed out or upset, you may find it useful to look at your list.

  1. Take care of yourself list
  2. What to do in a crisis list
  3. How to release stress list

If you have any other suggestions, please post them in the Your Ideas section of the forums.
