Outside Edge Theatre Company presents
My Name's Bill
Scripted and directed by Phil Fox
It’s 1935 and America is caught in the great depression. Unable to work for years, Bill, who was a successful broker whose life collapsed after the stock crash of 1929, is, along with his wife Lois, struggling to come to grips with his alcoholism and deepening despair. Gaining a few months sobriety and an opportunity of employment through a business trip to Akron, Ohio, on the journey’s eve, Bill struggles with his deteriorating marriage, his dread of failure and his increasing need for a drink that he knows will only lead to insanity and death. Based on true events that led to the formation of Alcoholics Anonymous and its sister organisation for relatives, Al-Anon, in this inspiring theatrical presentation, My Name’s Bill honestly portrays the ordeals, suffering and victories of people and loved ones working with and recovering from substance misuse.
