What is a COAP Mentor?

A COAP mentor is usually someone who has lived with, or is still living with someone else's addiction to drugs, alcohol or some form of addictive behaviour (such as gambling).

Our COAP Mentors Team

COAP has a small and dedicated team of people who respond to young people's messages. COAP mentors write to young people about their own experiences of living with someone's addiction which gives young people a rare opportunity to speak to someone who has been through it or is still going through it and knows that there is hope and light at the end of the tunnel. To read about our team visit the About COAP page.

Did you know anyone can be a COAP Mentor?

Anyone who wants to help others who are going through or have been through similar experiences can sign up to the COAP forums, join the online community and respond to young peoples messages. All messages are moderated before they are posted in the forums to make sure no personal details are posted.

Do you have to be a qualified counsellor to be a COAP Mentor?

No to put it simply!

Great advice often comes from those who have been through it.

We believe that it is important for young people to speak to others who have been there and understand what it is like. COAP mentor's write to young people about how they feel or felt in a similar situation and what they found helpful or not helpful at all. This helps young people to feel less alone, and to helps people to know that others experience similar feelings to what they feel or have felt.
